Masrour Barzani says that the American engagement in Middle East is part of the solution and that the war against terrorist groups is heavily dependent on long-term US commitment to the area.
In a meeting with Congressman Adam Schiff, member of the House Intelligence Committee, the Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region’s Security Council Masrour Barzani discussed the US-Kurdistan cooperation in the war on terrorism, anti-ISIS campaign in Mosul, and the future of Erbil-Baghdad relations.
“Larger cooperation and coordination between US and Kurdistan Region in shaping the future of the area is an crucial necessity,” he said. He also briefed Congressman Schiff about the post-ISIS politics, the lack of trust and mechanisms for revising the future relations in the area.
Congressman Schiff expressed his appreciations for the Kurdistan Region and the Peshmerga forces in the global war against terrorism. “I would like to thank you for your participation and cooperation in countering and eliminating terrorism, which is essentially a very large and effective role,” he said, reiterating his support for the rights of the people of Kurdistan and for increasing American support for the Kurdish issue. “There is a large number of Congress members who have sympathy and support for the Kurdish issue and where we describe you as one of US’s closest ally in the area.”
