President Masoud Barzani received a Japanese diplomatic delegation headed by Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Kentaro Sonoura. President Barzani and Minister Sonoura spoke of the importance of strengthening the bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and Japan.
The two sides also spoke of the current war against the terrorists of the Islamic State and especially the ongoing Mosul operation which is being fought by the Peshmerga and the Iraqi forces.
Mr. Sonoura’s delegation included Japan’s ambassador to Iraq and the newly appointed Consul to the Kurdistan Region. Part of Mr. Sonoura’s visit to the Kurdistan Region was to officially open the Consulate of Japan to the Kurdistan Region which will inevitably lead to opening more doors of cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and Japan.
