“ISIS has been defeated in many fronts and this is their last battle. It’s important to keep up the momentum,” said the Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region’s Security Council Masrour Barzani in a meeting with US Special Presidential Envoy for Global Coalition to Counter ISIS.
The meeting focused on the latest developments in the war against ISIS terrorists, particularly the operation launched to free Mosul. Both parties reiterated required commitment of the Coalition’s airstrikes during the operations and expanding the number of airstrikes as comparing to the last few days.
Brett McGurk emphasized on the US support for the Peshmerga forces and said that “we stand together and our support to eliminate this brutal enemy will continue.”
The KRG-Baghdad relations was also discussed in the meeting, especially how the Mosul operation and the joint Iraqi army-Peshmerga operations have fostered those relations.
The US Presidential Envoy shared President Obama’s condolences for the losses of Peshmerga in te war and hoped for the speedy recovery of the injuries. On his part, Masrour Barzani sent his condolences to the family and friends of the fallen US soldier which was killed in the Mosul operation.
