President Masoud Barzani received a delegation from the United Kingdom headed by Dr. Christian Turner, the Director General for Middle East and North Africa at the Foreign office. The delegation also included the deputy National Security Adviser, Mr. Gwyn Jenkins and Frank Baker, UK’s ambassador to Iraq.
During the meeting President Barzani and Dr. Turner spoke of the latest political, military and security developments in the Kurdistan Region in particular and in Iraq in general. They made reference to President Barzani’s recent trip to Baghdad in the hope of a new set of bilateral relations between Erbil and Baghdad where the people of Iraq can benefit.
President Barzani and Dr. Turner also spoke of the Mosul operation which will inevitably be of immense significance to the forces who are fighting the terrorists as the liberation of Mosul would, the President stated drastically damage the terrorists’ morale. The President added that the liberation of Mosul is of equal importance to the post-liberation plan of the province as the people of Mosul, be they Arabs, Kurds, Turkmans or Shi’a, Sunni, Christian or Yezidi would most likely not accept the old order and are expecting a new Nineveh where there is a brighter future to which they look.
President Barzani used the opportunity to express his heartfelt gratitude to the people and government of the United Kingdom for their support to the Kurdistan Region during these difficult times of fighting this existential war against the terrorists of the Islamic State. He added that the U.S.-led coalition against the terrorists has indeed made an enormous difference in the war against the terrorists of the Islamic State and that without that support, the road to defeating these savages of the Islamic State would have been increasing more difficult.
