The President of Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani concluded his one-day visit to Turkey on Wednesday where he met the top Turkish leaders.
President Barzani met the Turkish President Receb Teyyib Erdogan and the Prime Minister on Tuesday afternoon in the capital of Turkey, Ankara. His visit was upon an official invitation of Erdogan.
President Barzani also met the Speaker of Parliament Ismail Kahraman and the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) deputies on Wednesday.
“The President state that all efforts against democratically elected institutions will lead to failure and that the era of forceful coups has now passed,” said the press release of Kurdistan’s presidency on their website about President Barzani and Erdogan meeting.
The war against the self-proclaimed Islamic State (ISIS), the KRG politics and economy, KRG-Baghdad relations, and the ongoing regional developments, were the main themes of President Barzani’s meetings in Turkey.
“Big changes are ahead,” said President Barzani before heading to France in a press conference on Wednesday. “We agreed on strengthening our bilateral relations in terms of politics, economy and security. Our meetings were important.”
As for the Peace Process in Turkey, President Barzani said there needs much to be done but they have not lost hope. “We hope one day the Process will restart.”
