President Masoud Barzani received a United States delegation headed by General Joseph Dunford, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The meeting included a number of military officials from both the United States and the Kurdistan Region as well as ambassador Stuart Jones, the U.S. ambassador to Iraq.
President Barzani and General Dunford spoke of the upcoming military operations against the terrorists of the Islamic State particularly the Mosul operation. The President reiterated his stance on the importance of the political campaign after the liberation of Mosul which will certainly be of equal or even more importance than the military operation.
General Dunford spoke of the coordination and cooperation between the U.S.-led alliance and the Peshmerga forces against the terrorists of the Islamic State and how that relationship is of immense importance to the Mosul operation.
President Barzani repeated his gratitude on behalf of the people of the Kurdistan Region to the United States for its support against the terrorists of the Islamic State and stated that the terrorists pose a direct threat to all freedom-loving people around the globe.
