In a meeting with Dzulkifli Abdul Razak the President of the International Association of Universities (IAU), a UNESCO-affiliated organization based in Paris, Masrour Barzani said his aim by founding the American University of Kurdistan – Duhok (AUKD) is to build leaders at home and raise the education quality of higher education institutions in the Kurdistan Region.
On Thursday the Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region’s Security Council and Chairman of Board of Trustees of AUKD Masrour Barzani received Mr. Abdul Razak and Dr. Mosleh Mohammed the President of University of Duhok.
Mr. Abdul Razak told Masrour Barzani that the stability and progress in Kurdistan Region has built a suitable environment for the growth and development of academic and scientific studies amid larger threats and challenges on the entity. He explained the IAU’s activities and partnerships in the Kurdistan Region and said that they plan to hold their annual conference of 2018 in the Kurdistan Region. He also said that through their affiliations in the Kurdistan Region they are working on raising the academic standards of the local universities.
On his part, Masrour Barzani said by establishing the AUKD, students have greater opportunities to study at home with a world-class education instead of going abroad. He also offered Mr. Abdul Razak all type of support for the success of their activities.
