The Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region’s Security Council asked Amnesty International for close cooperation to eliminate any fault or personal misbehaviors.
On Wednesday, Masrour Barzani received a delegation from Amnesty International led by the organization’s Secretary General Salil Shetty.
The meeting focused on discussing Amnesty’s latest report of January 2016 and the future of collaboration and cooperation particularly within the context of the ongoing war against self-proclaimed Islamic State terrorists.
“We appreciate KRG’s openness and commitments and we have a history here,” said the Amnesty’s Secretary General and mentioned the Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to human rights and protecting civilians.
The two sides discussed the methodologies of writing accurate and correct reports in detail and agreed on cooperating with each other to develop further precise reports.
Masrour Barzani expressed the Kurdistan Region’s support to the Amnesty International to eliminate any ambiguities they have. “I am sure this is not the Kurdistan Region’s policy,” said Masrour Barzani, referring to the allegations made in the Amnesty report. “We want to investigate into such reported cases.”
