Iraq itself is the largest ISIS donor, the Kurdistan Region’s Security Council Chancellor Masrour Barzani told a media delegation from Kuwait as published by al-Rai newspaper. “The terrorist group has been able to control advanced weapons as a result of Iraqi army’s withdrawal.”
ISIS has controlled a large number of tanks, heavy and advanced weaponry therefore the Peshmarga needs better weapons to eliminate them, he added.
“The political environment after the fall of the former regime enabled the emergence of ISIS,” referring to the highly marginalization of the Sunni community in Iraq after the toppling of the Baath regime.
As for the relations between Kuwait and the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani praised the ties and thanked Kuwait for their assistances and cooperation with the Kurdistan Region.
